What did I unwrap today?
Nomad Long Trip Saison
Saison, 6.6%
Why is it that I am not really much of a fan of Saison’s? I remember when we launched the collaboration Saison with Little Creatures and Emmersons, we spent an afternoon tasting a whole bunch of popular and critically acclaimed examples of the style, and I was just not that into them.
Perhaps my palate is not mature enough to appreciate the flavours? (Some say that I am not mature enough to be a parent, also!) Or perhaps I just like my beers simple? The Saison is a pretty complex style, often possessing a quite fruity aroma and flavour with some yeast tones, spiciness and often some tartness…I reckon it is the tartness for mine, I prefer sweet tastes.
My thoughts on the beer
Keeping in mind that I am not a fan of this style, I am probably not the best person to be reviewing it, but here goes. The beer poured a really nice deep golden colour with a perfect white head…it certainly looked great. Spices and citrus on the nose, kind of what I would expect from a Saison. The beer seemed to be pretty fiercely carbonated and was kind of zingy on my toungue and had a kind of sourish finish.
The brewers used some coffee beans in the brew, but I didn’t really pick up on what they added to the beer…honestly, I just don’t think I was going to pick up on much cos I was just not into the style. Having said that, please don’t take my word for it on this occasion, if you like this style if beer then I hear this is a good one!

What food would go with this beer
I mentioned recently that beers from certain regions will often match best with food from that same region. In this situation, this style is based on French farmhouse ales…rustic food it is then. Why not try a good old Roast Chicken with some simple garlic and herbs?
